World Startup Map has no accounts, no sign-up and no login. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser’s storage, so there is nothing here that can follow you to another site or recognise you when you come back. There is no advertising network and nothing is sold or shared.
There is one privacy-preserving visitor counter, described below, which is cookieless by design — which is why this page has no consent banner on it. The rest of this page covers the other places data unavoidably exists: the server logs, the map tiles, and two in-memory counters.
Nothing that identifies you, and nothing that persists. You are not asked for a name, an email address or any other detail to use the map, and there is no mechanism here that would let one visit be recognised as the same person on the next.
There are no cookies, so there is no cookie banner. That is not an omission — there is genuinely nothing to consent to.
Loading any web page means your browser reveals its IP address to whoever serves it. That is true here, as everywhere. Three parties are involved in drawing this map:
The interface fonts are not a fourth party. They are Google fonts by origin, but they are downloaded when the site is built and served from this domain, so your browser never contacts Google to render this page.
Opening a company’s detail panel asks this server for that company’s record. To keep the dataset from being harvested in bulk, the server counts how many distinct companies a single address has opened in the last hour, and declines politely past a threshold.
Doing that requires holding something per visitor, so here is exactly what is held: the IP address Cloudflare reports, a small set of numeric hashes standing in for the companies already opened, and two counters. It lives in the server’s memory only, is never written to disk, is never combined with anything else, expires within about an hour, and is lost entirely whenever the process restarts. It is not used to build a profile, and it could not be — there is nothing for it to be joined to.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which sites they arrive from. It was chosen specifically because it is cookieless: it sets nothing on your device, assigns you no identifier, does not follow you across other sites, and its measurements are not used for advertising. That is the whole reason this page can still say there is no cookie banner.
Google Analytics was considered and deliberately not used. It would have required a consent banner and given us little that the above does not.
The cards in the rail along the bottom of the map are paid slots. Clicking one sends you through this site before forwarding you on, so that we can tell each sponsor how many people their slot reached.
What that records is a number and nothing else: a running total per sponsor per day. No entry is kept describing you, your address or the moment you clicked — there is only a count, incremented. Repeat clicks from the same address within an hour count once, which needs your address briefly; it is held as a scrambled number in memory for that hour and is never written to disk.
This site and the tunnel in front of it keep ordinary operational logs, which can include IP addresses, timestamps, requested paths and user-agent strings. They exist to keep the site running and to diagnose faults, are not used for analytics or profiling, and are kept no longer than is useful for that purpose.
The sponsorship page invites email to [email protected]. Mail sent there is a normal email conversation: it is kept in order to reply and to handle whatever it is about, and it is not added to any mailing list.
The pins are recently funded companies. That information comes from Fundable, who license it to this site, and it is drawn from public sources such as funding announcements and press coverage. It is a separate thing from anything on this page, which is about you rather than about them.
Worth stating plainly, because people reasonably assume otherwise: this map holds no founder names, no email addresses and no contact details. The source does not supply them, so there are none to show and none to leak. Locations are city-level only — every pin is a city centroid, never a street address.
If you are connected with a company on this map and want its entry corrected or removed, write to us at the address above and we will act on it. Because the underlying record belongs to Fundable, we will also pass the request on to them, since a correction made only here would return the next time the dataset rebuilds.
This is a business research tool with nothing directed at children, and it knowingly collects no information from anyone.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The practices described above are properties of how the site is built, so a meaningful change here means the code changed too.
